Don’t just throw old ID cards in the bin…

Friday, February 24th, 2012

People mostly have plastic ID cards because they’re concerned about security, whether it’s for a school, university, business or any other kind of organisation. You want to make sure that only the people that are supposed to be there are there, and that you can easily verify the identity of anyone that you need to.

Data theft is a common problem these days and everyone knows that you shouldn’t just throw important documents in the bin and risk somebody rummaging through them and getting hold of information that could potentially be used for fraud against you.

Bearing this mind, isn’t it extremely important to make sure that your old ID cards could fall into the wrong hands, especially any kind of technology or access cards? You can always cut a card up with scissors, but doing so is extremely laborious and not a good option if you’ve got any kind of volume of cards to dispose of.

We recommend using a shredder to make sure your cards are irreparably destroyed, but it’s also important to make sure that you use a shredder that is designed to deal with cards, like these.

If you’d like to find out more about card shredders or any of our other products, call ID Management Systems on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.

Look after your plastic card printer

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

We offer support with the plastic card printers that we supply, so we hear from our customers when they have problems with their machines. Occasionally, things do just break or go wrong, but more often than not the problems that we hear about are the sorts of things that could be prevented by routine maintenance.

Plastic card printers need to be cleaned on a regular basis using proper cleaning supplies. The most common cleaning supplies that you’ll need are cleaning rollers that ensure your blank cards are clear of dust when they’re fed into the printer, cleaning cards that go through the printer feed mechanism to break down any build-up of gunk and pens or swabs for cleaning the print-head itself, the most important and expensive component in your printer.

Failure to clean your printer properly and on a regular basis can cause lots of problems and it can also invalidate your manufacturer warranty, so it’s very important to do it.

If you’d like to find out more about how to clean your printer or stock up on cleaning supplies, call ID Management Systems on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.

Always use genuine ribbons with your plastic card printer

Monday, February 20th, 2012

ID Management systems only supply genuine manufacturer branded ribbons for plastic card printers, because we believe that the potential for small savings from buying compatible or copy ribbons isn’t worth the inferior print quality from the ribbons and worse the chance that they might damage your printer. Also, generally your printer’s manufacturer warranty is invalidated if you use compatible ribbons, so if something does go wrong you won’t be able to rely on the manufacturer for support.

So if you’re looking to save some money on plastic ID card printers and supplies, rather than saving money by buying inferior products, why not work with ID Management Systems? We have access to a huge range of different equipment from different manufacturers and we’ll always do our best to beat any other genuine quote from another UK supplier, helping you to save money without taking chances.

Use loyalty cards to keep your customers coming back

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

The UK and the world have been going through difficult economic times recently, so it’s a major concern for all businesses to make sure that their customers keep on coming back to them, so doing everything that you can do to keep your customers loyal is important.

Something that a lot of companies are doing is offering loyalty schemes, giving people a reason to want to tell you who they are in exchange for potential discounts, and an easy way to help you to administer a loyalty scheme while at the same time increasing the perceived value of it to your customers is to give them a high-quality printed plastic card with your branding on it in a nice and visible way, and their details on it. Wouldn’t you like it if your customers thought of you every time that they looked in their wallet?

If you’d like to find out more about getting loyalty cards for your business, call ID Management Systems on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.

ID cards for when biometric systems just won’t do

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

You hear a lot of talk about biometric systems, systems that use things like finger-prints for identifying individuals that are used for things like cashless vending and access control. The theory is that these systems are safer and more secure than plastic ID cards, but are they really?

The fact is that biometric systems are still imperfect and can’t always work, you’ll always run the risk of them either failing to recognise a legitimate input, not picking up on someone’s fingerprint even though they are on the system, or more dangerously recognising them wrongly and bringing up the wrong person or even approving somebody that isn’t even on the system at all.

Plastic ID cards don’t have this problem. If you use a card for cashless vending or access control, it’s highly unlikely that the system will fail to read unless there is some physically wrong with it, or that it could associate cards with the wrong people if the system is being used properly.

And of course, biometrics don’t give you the same visual identification that a plastic card does. If people have to wear their cards all the time, all it takes is a quick glance for anyone to verify that they have a card and that’s it’s the right card.

If you’d like to find out more about plastic ID cards, call ID Management Systems on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.

Want us to help you save money on your access cards?

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

At ID Management Systems, we supply a huge variety of different access cards from brands like HID, Cotag, Paxton, PAC and TDSi. We understand that with such a large number of different types and specifications of plastic cards available it can be very confusing and difficult to make sure that you get the right one.

A big part of the problem is that a lot of the cards aren’t very easy to tell apart, fundamentally, they’re generally a piece of mostly white plastic that’s about the same size as a credit card, often without any obvious branding on them.

Don’t worry though, often we can work with you to figure out the cards you’re using from a scanned image or a photo, and if in doubt, the best bet is always to send us a working sample of the cards you’re using that we can analyse and tell you exactly what cards you’re using and how much they’re going to cost.

If you’d like to find out how much we can save you on your access cards, call us on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.
