*** THIS POST RELATES TO THE FREE COPY OF EMEDIA SHIPPED WITH EVOLIS PRINTERS ONLY ***

From time to time eMedia may lose contact with its printer and start to complain about a license key. This is a red herring and there is no license key. The physical printer itself is the key.

When this starts to happen, it looks like this:

To recover from this, you need to open the File menu and choose Print Setup. Then use the drop-down control to select your Evolis printer:

Press OK on the Print Setup screen and then put the software into Design Mode (second button in on the big toolbar at the top). Here you will see a big DEMO button on the end of the toolbar:

Press the DEMO button and the following screen will show up:

Click the button labelled “Disable Demo Mode” and eMedia will return to normal.

Note that you can use Demo Mode to check out the full features of eMedia and even use it to design cards on a different computer. eMedia allows itself to be installed and used on as many machines as you like, the only restriction is that the only one that will print properly (without the overlay mark) is the one connected to your Evolis printer.

Mifare cards are an extremely popular choice for organisations that require a very versatile smart card. They are available in a wide range of different specifications to suit different requirements, including the still very popular Mifare 1K Classic which is cheaper than ever before, to the more capacious and secure Mifare DESFire EV1, available in sizes up to 8K.

As well as the supplying the blank cards at extremely competitive prices, ID Management Systems can also supply the cards pre-printed with whatever artwork you require. This is a good choice for things like student ID cards and travel cards and enables them to have a higher standard of print than can be applied with any desktop machine. It also enables you to have access to more physical security features like guilloche printing and holodesigns so you can make your cards even harder for anyone to try and copy.

If you’ve liked to find out more about pre-printed Mifare cards or any of the other products that we can supply, call ID Management Systems on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.

ID Management Systems supply a huge range of different plastic card printers that run from costing around £600 up to £5,000 or more, but one thing that plastic card printers all need printer ribbons. Just like a laser printer using toner cartridges to print, dye-sub plastic card printers use printer ribbons. These ribbons take the form of two plastic spools with a thin plastic film running between them. An increasing number of manufacturers are now supplying these ribbons in the form of cartridges that are designed to make it even easier for you to install them in your printer.

It is very important to remember that card printer ribbons from different manufacturers are not interchangeable. Just because two different printers both use YMCKO ribbons does not mean that they use the same ribbons. If in doubt, it is best to assume that you must have the specific ribbon for your printer. It’s also safest to not use compatible ribbons from other manufacturers, doing so can invalidate your warranty and might damage your printer.

If you’d like to find out more about plastic card printers, call ID Management Systems on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.

We get lots of calls and emails from people that are very new to the idea of issuing plastic ID cards for their organisation. Understandably, people often aren’t sure where to start. There is a lot of jargon involved in the technology, and the range of different types and makes of printers can make the whole thing seem incredibly confusing. It doesn’t help that it’s not always easy to be sure that people are being impartial in the advice that they give or the equipment that they recommend.

ID Management Systems are completely independent of any manufacturers, which means that we have the freedom to stock a very wide range of different plastic card printers and related equipment and that we’re also free to be honest and only recommend the equipment that we think is actually right for the job, and because we support all of the printers that we supply, that means if there is a problem you can be confident that we will do everything that we can to fix it.

If you’re new to plastic card printers and need advice, call ID Management Systems on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.

So you’re eager to get high quality plastic photo ID cards for your business and our card bureau service seems like the way to go. You’ve agreed on the details and you’ve approved the proof design from our designer. What comes next?

There are a variety of ways that you can get the data for your cards over to us, and a lot depend on just how much of it you’ve got to send us. In general, the best idea is to build something like an Excel spreadsheet with a list of all the names, job titles, ID numbers, photo file-names and whatever else you have that you need added to your cards and you can then send that over to us along with all of the photos.

We can work with digital photos or physical photos, but generally digital photos are simplest for everyone. We can accept files in most popular formats and if there are any problems with the photos we’re sent we’ll let you know.

For ongoing requirements, when you just need the odd card producing here and there, it’s usually simplest to just email us the information.

If you’d like to find out more about our card bureau service of any of the other products that we supply, call ID Management Systems on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.

We’ve run a card bureau service at ID Management Systems pretty much since the company was first started, 18 years ago. We understand that there are lots of people that want to have high quality plastic cards for their staff or members, but for whatever reason they’d rather out-source the actual production process. Maybe it’s because of the up-front cost of buying a printer, maybe it’s just about time and convenience.

The first step of the bureau process is for us to work with you to turn your intended design into a viable template for ID cards. We use specific software that is designed for ID card production so this is a vital step in the process. We’ll need the highest quality versions you’ve got of your logos and any other graphical elements, as well as any ideas you’ve got for the layout and the details of all text that you want to have on the card.

You’ll be given the chance to proof your design before it is finalised. Often we’ll even produce a physical sample of the design for you to see and check you’re happy. We can’t produce any of your cards until we’ve received a signed-off copy of the proof document, so it’s important to avoid delays in this process.

If you’d like to find out more about getting high quality plastic ID cards for your organisation, call ID Management Systems on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help.
