Life Is Easier With ID Cards

National ID cards were first introduced at the outbreak of the first world war, and remained a fact of British life until well after the end of the second world war. Some civil rights campaigners are not happy that the Government may bring about a return of ID cards, but given the worrying times we live in it’s easy to see why ID cards are seen as a solution to the threat of terrorism and other crimes.

It’s not clear whether or not ID cards will be reintroduced but if they are, the chances are that we will all take them for granted after a while. The worry for some is that this is another step in the direction of living in a controlled society, but when you look around at how many plastic cards we use these days, it makes sense to have a universal ID card which will make life a lot easier. Think of how many forms of ID you have to present when you open a bank account. If national ID cards are introduced, this is the only form of ID you will need.

PVC Cards: the Versatile ID Card Solution

An effective ID card should be able to meet a variety of challenges, most notably in terms of durability and affordability. Therefore it is no surprise that PVC remains the material of choice for ID cards; ideally suited for a wide variety of applications.

For example, if you need to issue a large number of cards or require temporary cards, the most cost effective solution is surely PVC. Alternatively, if you need a card that can survive prolonged periods in a student’s or employee’s pocket then PVC cards are perfectly suited to the job.

You might assume that because of the affordability of the PVC cards, they somehow represent a “cheap” alternative to other ID cards, but this is misconceived as “PVC cards” is actually a broad term encompassing a variety of options, whether your requirement is for affordable or sophisticated cards.

Biodegradable PVC cards are the perfect solution to applications that would traditionally lead to cards being wasted or thrown away. PVC is also receptive to variety of security enhancements that make them ideal for use as a smart or access card. For example, you could incorporate secure holodesigns, Braille or micro text printing.

How to Optimise your ID Cards

An ID card need not be a primitive security technology, and by incorporating a variety of features you will be able to increase the practicality and effectiveness of ID cards; engineering them to be applicable for a variety of specific requirements.

Printed Laynards

For example, it you want to ensure the portability of a card then you might consider printed lanyards, which will allow the card to hang from a wearer’s neck, thereby optimising wear-ability. Also, as the lanyards are printed, this means that you can, for example, print a company name onto the laynard.

Watermarks

If you want a surefire guard against card cloning, then you could incorporate a “watermark” onto your cards (i.e a unique mark that can’t be cloned). You may assume that such an effective security feature may come at a premium, but in fact, with a card printer accessory like the “Holokote” from Magicard, maximum card security is affordable.

PVC Cards

For an ID card to be truly successful it should have a certain level of ruggedness, especially if it used day-to-day such as in a school setting.
