Figuring out what you want to include on your plastic ID cards is an important part of the process. It’s something we’ve helped a lot of people with over the years. We understand that people’s requirements vary greatly and we’re happy to take the time to discuss it with our customers to make sure that we get it right.
A lot of it is about understanding what you actually want to do with the card and any special requirements that you might have because of your working environments. For example, people who work with the elderly or other people with poor eyesight should probably go for cards without too much information on the front so that the important details can be printed clearly in a larger font.
Some industries have specific requirements about the information needed on ID cards, for example whether the individual’s signature must be included, in which case you’ll need your cards to be printed with a signature strip.
If this is the first time you’ve had to think about issuing plastic ID cards to your staff or members it can seem like a daunting challenge, but don’t worry. ID Management Systems have been in this business for a long time, so call us on 0800 408 1471 and we’ll be happy to help you get what you need.

While personal photo ID cards are the most common use for the plastic cards that we supply, there are many other uses.
Loyalty cards are increasingly popular. Most people find themselves having at least a few different companies’ loyalty cards in their wallets. They’re an easy way or rewarding your best customers, while also potentially giving you a chance to collect very useful information.
There are plenty of types of environment that use an access control system that isn’t specifically intended to be an ID card. Hotels are one of the most obvious. The majority of hotels favour proximity or swipe cards over traditional keys are they are commonly also integrated into the room electrics to control the lights.
Most organisations like to provide membership cards, even if the individual doesn’t often need to present it. They’re a satisfyingly tangible way of demonstrating that you have joined an organisation.
We’ve also found that plastic cards are a handy way of carrying photos of your loved ones around. They’re much more durable than normal photo-paper, and they’re also of course the perfect size to fit in your wallet.
There are many other interesting uses for plastic cards like the ones that we supply. Have you found any interesting uses for them?

The cheapest part of any card printing solution, people often neglect the quality of the blank cards that they use in their card printer. Saving a few pennies here can potentially drastically reduce the quality of printing you get and even damage your printer. Here at ID Management Systems, we only supply genuine Fotodek™ branded cards, available in a wide range of specifications and grades to suit every application.
Our standard card is the Fotodek™ Premier CR80 760micron card in 100% PVC. This cards are excellent quality and suitable for a diverse range of users. These cards are also available with magnetic stripes, both Lo-Co and Hi-Co and can be pre-printed to your specification. They are even available in a range of different colours. While 760 micron cards are the most popular, you can also buy them in 250, 480 and even 1,000 microns.
For people that use smart and access cards, a popular choice is our Fotodek™ Self-Adhesive cards. These cards print like normal, but they have a peel-off backing that allows them to be attached to many different technology cards, potentially saving you the money of having to issue a unique new card to each employee. Some older clam-shell type proximity cards also can’t be directly printed on, so self-adhesive cards represent the best option for individualisation.
While PVC (poly-vinyl chloride) is the most popular material for ID cards, offering as it does an excellent balance between economy, printability and durability, we can also offer cards made from different plastics, including PVC with a 40% PET (polyester) core to make them more able to stand demanding environments and new 100% PET cards intended to survive the most damaging of situations. New this year we can also offer cards manufactured from BioPVC, which is a special type of plastic that is designed to be completely biodegradable.

National ID cards were first introduced at the outbreak of the first world war, and remained a fact of British life until well after the end of the second world war. Some civil rights campaigners are not happy that the Government may bring about a return of ID cards, but given the worrying times we live in it’s easy to see why ID cards are seen as a solution to the threat of terrorism and other crimes.
It’s not clear whether or not ID cards will be reintroduced but if they are, the chances are that we will all take them for granted after a while. The worry for some is that this is another step in the direction of living in a controlled society, but when you look around at how many plastic cards we use these days, it makes sense to have a universal ID card which will make life a lot easier. Think of how many forms of ID you have to present when you open a bank account. If national ID cards are introduced, this is the only form of ID you will need.
Here at ID Management Systems we are well used to dealing with plastic cards of all types. We specialise in giving our customers who need ID systems the best advice and back up available, whether that is ID card printers, pre printed cards card printer accessories or biodegradable PVC cards.

What do building sites, schools and prisons all have in common? The need for effective visitor management. Yes, perhaps the single most ubiquitous security concern relates to correct handling of visitors, and this is with good reason. For example, if unauthorised personnel wander into unsafe areas of a building site or if members of the public are allowed to walk freely around a school premises, then a variety of potential safety issues could arise.
Luckily, there is a simple but highly effective solution to visitor management – ID cards. However, unlike employee management, for example, proper management of visitors affords some unique challenges and requires specialised visitor management software.
For example, unlike employee or pupils, a visitor population with not stay constant and your software should be able to accommodate and issue new IDs at a pace that is convenient for a transient visitor to a building site or school, for example. Our “ID Manager Visitor” and “ID Manager Visitor Pro” software is especially suited to this task, and will allow the speedy registration of visitors and the extremely fast printing of ID cards.
Which brings us to the next crucial consideration regarding visitor systems – the ID cards should be appropriate for visitor usage. Therefore, if you need to issue temporary IDs on a regular basis you might opt for more affordable plastic cards, whereas if you need to optimise security, such as in a prison setting, functionality you could choose cards that have inherent security features such as watermarks.

At ID Management Systems we are able to offer a wide range of access cards to suit any specific requirement or budget – but what exactly are access cards and what are the options available?
Essentially, as their name suggest, access cards are plastic cards that will grant you access to location. As the mechanism by which they operate varies from card to card, the options for an access card are quite diverse, and include the following:
Proximity Card
Basically a proximity, or “prox” card carries an inherent antenna which “communicates” a card number to a reader, for example a door access device. This means that prox cards are extremely effective and easy to use, whilst being suitable to a wide variety of situations. On the negative side, however, they are “read only”, which means that they have limited functionality when compared to Smart Cards.
Magstripe Card
If you want to store significant information on an ID card (such as age or sex) then you might consider a magnetic stripe or “magstripe” card, which carries a magnetic stripe capable of encoding a significant level of information. Whilst they are now widely used for things like drivers licenses, you may need a special magstripe reader and encoder to make the most of their functionality.
Smart Cards
If you want the functionality of a prox card combined with “writable” functionality, you could opt for an ultra-modern smart card: the perfect card to meet the unique and multifaceted demands of modern industry.

At ID Management Systems we are able to offer a wide variety of ID card systems to suit a divers range of potential applications. That way, when you come to utilise the system you will be assured that it is suited just for the purpose you intended.
For example, if you need a system to accommodate the specific needs of a school, then we are proud to offer the “ID Manager School Card System”, which is has been developed with the particular needs of a school in mind. For example, it can create photo IDs “on the spot” – perfect when you need to create ID cards for a large number of people, and it can integrate these into a wide variety of school related applications, from bus passes to library cards.
If your commitments aren’t as extensive as a school operation, then we also have a solution that is perfectly suited to a more modest requirement – the “ID Manager Entry ID2”, which not only allows you to create ID cards, but is also fully upgradable. Therefore, this system is perfectly adaptable to your changing business or personal requirements.

ID cards can be incredibly beneficial, but few people realise just how many advantages they can bring to your business. So, here are just a few of the benefits you might find to help you realise that ID cards really are essential.
For starters, ID cards offer added security to your business and indeed your employees. They ensure that the only people on your premises are those registered to be there, and also that there’s no-one wandering around who shouldn’t be and who could pose a security risk. Badge holders are ideal for the display of ID cards on a regular basis.
Then there’s the fact that ID cards show professionalism, and they can be essential in situations where you need to deal with the public. Having ID cards allows your customers and clients to know exactly who they’re dealing with, and just having that reassurance can make them feel a lot more comfortable in your presence, particularly if you’re visiting their home.
They can even be a way to increase camaraderie between your employees. In large corporations employees can often feel like they’re not part of a wider team, but having ID cards in badge holders on constant display almost gives them a sense of identity and can be a way to bond them with their fellow staff members.
These are just a few ways that ID cards can benefit your company, but if you’re still not convinced then make sure to contact us here at ID Management Systems so you can see just what we can do for you and your business. We’re sure that you’ll be impressed with what you find.
